Schizophrenia and A Beautiful Mind

John is maladaptive because he is not good in social situations, instead of becoming social he adapted poorly by creating an imaginary friend.
John is unjustifiable because from the perspective of others he is talking to himself and acting strangely like someone is there, but there is no actually no one there.
John is disturbing because when he was having illusions he thought the his baby was safe, when his baby was actually in the bathtub and near death from drowning.
John is atypical because people don't normally have illusions, especially illusions that are so real they are unable to be distinguished from reality.

Dreams and Latent Content

1. One dream I had was alone in a forest and got attacked by a coyote, and then I beat it to death.  My left hand was ripped in the process, but I remember feeling very proud of the kill.

2. Another dream I had was in a haunted house owned by a inhuman monstrous old women, I was trying to walk across the floor and not make a noise and I was very scared.  Suddenly the floor creaked and the old women ran out of a room to attack me, instantly my dream was no longer filled with fear and was then full of rage.  I killed the monstrous old women very violently, right after she was dead I looked at my arms, maggots were crawling underneath my skin and some were escaping out of my bloody pores.

3. Another dream I had was I was in my house, but it somehow seemed darker and more ominous. Strange aliens would keep jumping out and scaring me.  Every time I killed the alien, but what frightened me the most was the screeching noise they made.  Every time the I saw a alien it let loose an ear popping screech that caused my eyes to water, my head to pound, and my body to convulse.

  1. A coyote symbolizes deception and weakness. Pain symbolizes being too hard on myself. Pride symbolizes that I will stand up and fight the challenges attacking my integrity.
  2. Fear symbolizes that I'm afraid to confront the unknown aspects of myself and I'm experiencing anxieties in my life. Rage symbolizes bad temper, negative outbursts, and suppressed anger. Maggots symbolize some issue or problem you have been rejecting and it is now eating away at you.
  3. Violence symbolizes unexpressed anger or rage, aggressive or sadomasochistic tendencies, and suggests you may be fighting or struggling against aspects of your own self. Loudness symbolizes hiding from something. Tears/Crying symbolize helplessness, difficulties and frustrations in trying to communicate with others, a way to regain emotional balance because the lack of emotion shown while conscious, and it also represents pain. Aliens symbolize you're having difficulties adapting and adjusting to your new surroundings, feeling disconnected, problems dealing with a person or situation, and an encounter with unfamiliar or neglected aspect of your own self.

Baby Albert

1.Their results supported their hypothesis.  Baby Albert initially had no response to the objects shown to him, after showing him these objects and instilling fear with loud noises, he began to associate these objects with fear.  Just like their hypothesis stated that most emotional reactions are built on conditioned or learned responses.
2. Albert's response became generalized because he associated the fear of a white rat to other white animals, who now also instilled fear in him.
3. The principles of classical conditioning were used to reduce Peter's fear of rabbits by use of an extinction procedure.  The extinction procedure was pairing the rabbits he normally feared with good things, such as ice cream or receiving special attention.  Now when he encountered rabbits instead of feeling fear he would be expecting ice cream or special attention, thus curing his fear of the rabbits.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I wasn't surprised at the end of the video because they hid the doctor's and nurse's faces till they revealed the patient face.  Beauty is subjective, every one has a different opinion of beauty.  Beauty changes, you will age and your beauty will fade.  No one is always beautiful.  The current standard of beauty for a girl in Kimberly Wisconsin has a bright smile, a thin yet busty figure, and has a energetic atmosphere around them.  This is not realistic.

Role Playing

I was in a play when I was younger where I had to fill the role of a knight.  To fill this role I acted bravely, honor full, and just; something I usually wouldn't do in everyday life.  I acted the way I thought a knight would act, and changed my attitude to adjust to a situation.

Stanford Prison Study

The person that surprised me the most was prisoner 819. This prisoner rebelled against the rules, broke down crying when talking to a priest, and felt he was a bad prisoner. What surprised me even more was this prisoner was offered the option to leave the prison, but he denied to leave because he knew the other prisoners thought he was a bad prisoner. He was only able to accept leaving after he was told this was an experiment and who he actually is, or who he actually was before he became prisoner 819.

Everyone had a behavior change to fit their new role, either prisoner or guard.  The prisoners either conformed or rebelled, sometimes even acted crazy or emotionally unstable.  The guards acted cruelly to the prisoners to maintain order, some guards took it to the extreme and punished the prisoners for no reason just to humiliate them and break their will to resist.
